Nintendo probably didn’t envision the bongo drum controllers used in the Donkey Konga games and Donkey Kong Jungle Beat being used in a Call of Duty game when they released them. To be honest, I didn’t know either. DeanoBeano, a Twitch streamer, managed 105 kills and assists on a pair of DK Bongos in a recent Call of Duty: Vanguard match.
Gamecube’s game called Donkey Kong Jungle Beat is a game known in which you use bongos to help the titular ape navigate treacherous platforming levels. So, in Call of Duty: Vanguard, using the controller to charge through 3D maps isn’t such a big leap. Even so, watching streamer DeanoBeano playing multiplayer Vanguard on a pair of bongos is a surreal experience.
PCGamesN was the first to notice the achievement. Deano told Kotaku that he was inspired by the way Super Louis 64 played Call of Duty: Modern Warfare with the bongo controllers. Despite the fact that the DK Bongos have only five buttons (including the start button), Deano was able to increase the number of functions by remapping the buttons and switching between different commands. This enables the streamer to successfully crouch, scope, shoot, slide, and even emote in the same way that players with traditional controllers can. Even if his opponents aren’t aware that they were just blasted by a dude playing bongos, it’s still humiliating for them.
To be fair, the streamer is an accomplished and experienced Call of Duty player in any case. While the bongos are an official (albeit unconventional) controller, Deano has been known to play games with items that were never intended to be used as video game controllers. He’s played Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War with a recorder and a full drum kit, for example. However, the bongos appear to be his favorite, as he’s uploaded a dozen videos of himself using these rhythmic controllers to play various FPS games.
While his Twitch and YouTube followings are small, his most popular TikTok gameplay video has nearly five million views. He isn’t just limited to first-person shooters. Here’s a TikTok of him using a drum set to kick ass in Fall Guys.
Competitive players, be on the lookout. Even the most expensive next-gen controllers may not be enough to save you from the Donkey Kong bongos-wielding jerk.
Fuslie wrote a lengthy Twitlonger post explaining how the two ended their relationship on the best possible terms.
As a result, Fuslie found it difficult to hide her embarrassment from the camera. She paused the video twice, jokingly requesting that the 28-year-old version of herself “stop.”
