After his team won the $75,000 Last Dance in Verdansk event, a 14-year-old Call of Duty: Warzone player chose to skip school in one of the most understandable school absences ever.
Rivs is a 14-year-old Warzone player that is really talented. And after nearly qualifying for the $75,000 Last Dance in Verdansk Grand Finals with Destroy, the duo went on to win the entire tournament. They took home $28,000 of the tournament’s total prize pool. And, while the money is life-changing for many, think how much it would mean to a 14-year-old?
It was incredible just to win the event, which featured the finest players in the world in custom lobbies. However, the duo claimed first place and the bag after hours of gameplay and some ridiculous hacker drama. So, how did Rivs celebrate his victory? By refusing to attend school the next day. And his parents are probably still puzzled, and it’s unlikely they minded. Rivs remarked when asked how they reacted to the tournament win; “they couldn’t believe me and were super proud of me and just were super shocked.”
Other professionals have reacted to the large quantity of money handed to a student who is still in school. LouiCM, one of the players, described it as “mental,” recalling how his mother tried to prevent him from playing Xbox when he was 14 years old.
Rivs’ parents, on the other hand, allowed him to participate in a long tournament on a school night (and then skip class the next day). That’s a significant gap, and it demonstrates how far the gaming industry has progressed. Perhaps more parents will stop locking their children’s Xboxes if Rivs gets them some lovely gifts.
