Felix “xQc” Lengyel, a controversial Twitch streamer, was hospitalized late last week for a serious case of double ear infection that left him bleeding from both ears.
Following his return from TwitchCon 2022, 26-year-old xQc stated he would be taking a brief vacation from streaming because he tested positive for COVID-19. While the annual conference required vaccination proof or negative COVID-19 testing for all attendees at both its San Diego and Amsterdam venues, the general increase in visitors resulted in small outbreaks of the “con plague” in both cities.
The U.S. competition generated even more public outrage after Adriana Chechik, a Twitch broadcaster, broke her back while jumping into a foam pit and several other individuals were hurt. Regarding xQc, the Luminosity-affiliated streamer started up his daily broadcasts again on Tuesday after pausing for five days.
Lengyel did, however, only stay on Twitch for three days before he started skipping his regularly planned daily streams once more. The Canadian said on Twitter over the weekend that he has now had a double ear infection and that this has caused swelling in his face and difficulty eating and even speaking. The streamer went to the emergency room when his ears started bleeding, and on Saturday, October 22, he was given an antibiotic drop prescription. A Sunday update on Twitter stated that the face swelling continued to become worse throughout the following day to the point that xQc could “barely hear.”
Given that viruses cannot be treated with antibiotics, this revelation raises the possibility that Lengyel’s ear infection was viral in origin. In any case, the content creator has faced his fair share of challenges this year, from xQc’s YouTube ban for breaking the community guidelines to this string of health troubles.
The Quebec-based streamer, who first gained notoriety as a pro Overwatch player, continues to be a controversial figure in the gaming community. This is partly because of his outspoken temperament, which periodically resulted in disagreements with other internet celebrities and relationship problems with Adept, a well-known Twitch streamer from Texas. However, the 26-year-old Canadian is frequently criticized in public for continuing to play a role in the spread of gambling on Twitch.
xQc revealed during one of his broadcasts from a few months ago that he had placed bets totaling more than $500,000,000 during the course of his career, a sum that was primarily (if not entirely) funded by his sponsors.
