After the professional wrestling organization apparently struck a new agreement with the streaming service, WWE Superstars may once more be able to stream on Twitch.
The WWE significantly imposed limitations on its performers in 2020 who produced content on outside platforms, most notably Twitch. There were quite a few WWE stars streaming at the time, including Paige and Austin Creed of UpUpDownDown fame.
Stars like Paige broke down during a broadcast in October of that year over the new limits. This crackdown would remove any income their Superstars received while producing video under their stage names or shut down their channels entirely. It appears that this regulation will soon alter, though. The WWE has reportedly signed a new agreement with Twitch that will permit its talent to continue streaming on the platform under their own channels, according to claims from Sean Ross Sapp of FightfulSelect.
Reportedly, this new agreement will implement a three-way split between Twitch, the wrestlers participating, and the WWE, with Twitch and the individual SuperStar earning the lion’s share of the payment cut. The sole limitation so far seems to be that wrestlers from other promotional companies won’t be able to stream alongside the WWE Superstars unless the WWE first gives the go-ahead.
The WWE used to give its performers 30 days to delete their channels or give the corporation full control of their accounts.
CEO Vince McMahon said in a statement to every WWE employee on September 4, 2020, “It is imperative that these activities be terminated within the next 30 days. Continued violations will result in fines, suspension or termination at WWE’s discretion.”
Fortunately, it appears that this wildly unpopular choice is being overturned in the wake of claims that the famous WWE sale to Saudi Arabia was staged to entice other purchasers.
