A YouTuber and Star Citizen fan has a gaming room that was custom built to look like a futuristic spaceship from the game.
Successful Twitch and YouTube content creators are known for lavishing their earnings on enviable items such as super-powerful PC rigs, flashy cars, lavish homes, and philanthropic endeavors. A study published in February 2022 estimated how much money Twitch streamers make per hour, and while most of the top earners hover around $800 per hour, a few surpass $2,000 per hour.
The things that content creators spend their money on aren’t always practical, but they can be a lot of fun. There’s the YouTuber who paid $900 for an exoskeleton to help him manage the weight of a replica of Cloud Strife’s Buster Sword, which weighed an unwieldy 50 pounds. Another YouTuber rented a billboard outside of Treyarch’s Santa Monica offices a few years ago to promote a remaster of the Die Rise map from Call of Duty: Black Ops 2. That was paid for with the help of a $5,000 GoFundMe campaign.
Few PC gamers, even content creators with a little extra cash, can boast a more impressive gaming setup than Thai YouTuber Bankii. Bankii spent $30,000 to build a gaming room that resembled the Crusader Hercules spaceship from Cloud Imperium Games’ space trading and combat simulation Star Citizen. The room is truly impressive, and while the video is in Thai, closed captioning is available for English speakers who want to learn more.
To begin, Bankii’s spaceship is entered through automatic sliding doors, giving the impression of stepping into the future. The room has nearly $900 worth of LED strips, but the cockpit area, where three 65-inch TVs are displayed horizontally to give the impression of looking through a giant windshield, really makes it feel like a spaceship. A 49-inch curved monitor is set into the desktop in front of the TVs, alongside a steering wheel and joystick, and serves as a dashboard for flying and racing games like Forza Horizon 5, complete with simulated dials, knobs, and blinking lights.
To match the futuristic theme, everything inside the spaceship is white, including the gaming chairs, mouse, and headset. A secondary seating area with another computer is also present, presumably for more logistical applications such as video editing, music playing, and so on. The Star Citizen-themed room even has a kitchen area with a microwave, hot plate, electric kettle, and plenty of cabinet space for snacks, as Bankii will most likely be spending hours upon hours playing games inside the spaceship. Overall, many people would probably splurge on Bankii’s custom-made futuristic gaming room if they had the money.
