Quin69, who spent nearly $16,000 on a rare 5-star gem, promptly destroyed it on Twitch before deleting the game from his computer in protest.
Quin69 had been attempting to obtain a 5-star gem in Diablo Immortal since June 2, spending over $25,000 NZD (15,997 USD) in the process.
Quin69 finally got the gem and immediately uninstalled the game, so the stream quickly went downhill. He reinstalled the game after remembering he hadn’t taken a screenshot, but not before deciding to destroy the gem in protest. He left his clan, deleted his hero, and then uninstalled the game live on stream after using the 5-star gem to power up a useless 1-star item.
As previously mentioned, Diablo Immortal’s microtransactions have received a lot of flak since its release, with Jez Corden and our friends at Windows Central observing this week that the game and its microtransactions almost feel like they’re designed to get you to spend money.
Shortly after launch, it was discovered that you can max out your character in the game for $110,000, rendering the best Diablo Immortal builds out of reach for most players.
The ongoing storyline is a blemish on what is otherwise an extremely promising mobile experience, with great gameplay, monsters, loot, accessibility, and strong performance on many of Apple’s best iPhones and iPads.
