Imane ‘Pokimane’ Anys, a popular Twitch streamer, is taking issue with assertions that anyone can succeed in the streaming industry if they put in enough effort.

Pokimane has risen through the Twitch ranks over the years to become one of the platform’s and the internet’s most well-known broadcasters, but things could have turned out quite differently for her. Anys’ career took off thanks to her passion for gaming, and she has since amassed millions of fans on YouTube, Twitter, and most recently Theads.

But the Moroccan-Canadian asserts that she most likely would not have become the well-known streamer we are familiar with today if she had not grown up in North America. Pokimane criticized streamers who claim that if you work hard enough, you can succeed from nothing during a Twitch show on July 18. She explained that it all depends on where a person is from. It truly depends on where you are and even the resources that are available in your nation, she said. “I would never be the streamer that I am now if I had grown up in Morocco.”

Poki claims that even if she continued to have a passion for video games and the same demeanor, she would not have grown into the significant Twitch figure she is today. Because of this, she stated, “That’s why I feel like it’s unfair when people say sh*t like that, like let’s be real,”

Pokimane’s parents’ decision to relocate to Canada is fortunate since it’s difficult to imagine a day when she isn’t a Twitch streamer or as well-known as she is right now. It worked out well for them as well because she has developed into such a content giant that at the age of 27, she was able to pay for her parents’ retirement fund.
