Twitch streamer Imane Anys aka Pokimane has reacted to the uproar over Valkyrae’s new RFLCT skincare product, which claims to reduce the negative effects of blue light on human skin.
Rachell ‘Valkyrae’ Hofstetter announced the debut of her new skincare line RFLCT on October 19th, with the objective of protecting gamers from the blue-light emitted by their monitors. However, the absence of evidence against the effects of this light has prompted questions about the brand’s intentions, as well as if Valkyrae’s community was “scammed” by the product’s creators.
Imane ‘Pokimane’ Anys, a fellow streamer and content creator, added her two cents to the topic, noting that she understands the “research concerns” around the product. She wants to give Valkyrae the benefit of the doubt when additional information becomes available.
Pokimane said she’s in a difficult position to comment on the matter. Regardless, the Twitch star believes she owes her viewers an obligation to be “pretty honest.”
She explained during her October 21st live broadcast; “I completely agree that there are valid research concerns, especially when you call out something that to be harmful but when it’s not universally considered as such. I’m glad she acknowledged those concerns were valid, and I guess all I can really say is that I hope she creates a solution to resolve it.”
The streamer went on to say that this occurrence indicates a larger issue in the field of influencer marketing than simply this one incident.
Pokimane decided to hold off on making any further decisions until Valkyrae got a chance to give her side of the story. To rectify the matter, Valkyrae has announced on Twitter that she will return to streaming on October 23rd at 3 p.m. PT.
Poki’s main conclusions from the situation are that people should “always use sunscreen” and that broadcasters should “do a lot of research” before trying to sell anything to their audience.
