The developer and publisher of Overwatch, Blizzard recently reported that they decided to postpone the release of a new Overwatch map that was based in Italy.
Recently, according to a now-deleted exclusive news item on Dexerto, Blizzard was planning to release a “surprise” Deathmatch map called Malvento on the test server on July 22nd and to the public on August 17th.
In a now-deleted post, the website claimed, “The magnificent map is located in an Italian mountainside with lush surroundings extending as far as the eye can see.” “A hidden Talon base will be found in the heart of the new area, where gamers will combat.”
“As a daytime battleground, you’ll be soaking up the sun as Malevento stands out as one of the more vibrant maps in Overwatch to date,” it continues, confirming that “the new area features a mix of both tight corridors and more open outdoor areas, leading to a blend of close-quarters combat while still allowing the likes of Widowmaker to excel from afar.”
Blizzard hasn’t said why the map wasn’t released when it was supposed to be. ICYMI, Blizzard just stated that while Overwatch 2 will still be released for Nintendo Switch, the team will have to “make certain concessions” because producing the shooter for the device is “a little harder than some.”
The announcement was made during an Overwatch 2 AMA on Reddit, in which the key members of the development team answered questions from fans about the highly anticipated sequel.
Five years after the game’s release, Overwatch crossplay is finally a reality. Unfortunately, there is currently no cross-progression, so bear that in mind while forming a team with pals.
As we previously stated, Overwatch appears to be adopting a unique approach to allowing players to collaborate across platforms. Although the present absence of cross-progression, as well as the lack of opt-out options for PC users, is frustrating, competitive encounters will stay well balanced.
More information about Overwatch crossplay can be found in the recently released Overwatch crossplay FAQ, and don’t forget that Overwatch 2 maps will include dynamic times of day and weather.
