Ironmouse, a well-known Twitch streamer, and VTuber, makes fun of non-fungible tokens, a blockchain-based digital collectible.

All of this happened as Ironmouse was viewing a Wall Street Journal video with a rather dystopian title, “Trapped in the Metaverse: Here’s What 24 Hours in VR Feels Like.”

Ironmouse had a strong reaction when the video’s focus was on NFTs in a particular section. Ironmouse found it appropriate to roast NFTs in general as well as the rather ugly pixilated dog piece in particular.

Many commenters expressed a similar lack of enthusiasm, and one user succinctly summarized their feelings with a string of barf-holding emojis.

Another user appeared to find the idea of entering the Metaverse and interacting with those doll-eyed avatars there repulsive. There were some people who weren’t on the hate train, as evidenced by the user who wrote, “love meta and NFT’s.”

When large corporations are involved, like when videogame companies produce some sort of NFT related to their intellectual properties, NFTs have often been criticized for appearing to be tools for money-grabbing schemes. However, the technology’s proponents promote it as a means for independent artists to profitably market their creations online.
