As he continues to come to terms with his narrow Formula One title loss to Max Verstappen, Lewis Hamilton has decided to take a break from social media.
The 36-year-old has unfollowed everyone on Instagram and hasn’t posted since qualifying second for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on December 11th.
During one of his Twitch live streams, Lewis’ younger brother Nicolas revealed that Lewis was taking a break from social media but that he was fine.
In his post-race interviews, Hamilton was gracious in defeat as he congratulated Verstappen, but he has not spoken since.
He was photographed receiving his knighthood from Prince Charles at Windsor Castle, but he and his Mercedes team failed to show up for the FIA’s prize-giving gala 24 hours later, resulting in a sanction from the sport’s governing body.
After his crash late in the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, which brought out the safety car and allowed Verstappen to close in on Hamilton and eventually make the pass, Williams driver Nicholas Latifi, 26, has received a barrage of abuse and even death threats on social media.
