Competitive games, according to 343 Industries, require anti-cheat, and its own game is a good example of this.
Despite the fact that its campaign has yet to be released, 343 Industries’ Halo Infinite is already a huge success thanks to its free-to-play multiplayer, which launched just last week. Unfortunately for those who play with honor and respect, it appears that cheaters are out in force, employing dubious tactics such as aimbots and wallhacks to obtain some impressively impossible kills and inflate their scores.
It appears that players are modding either their game or their controller—or both—to deploy various exploits, as evidenced by a clip from Twitch streamer Douglas “DougisRaw” Wolf of himself watching a playback of his own encounter with a Halo Infinite cheater earlier this week. DougisRaw can be seen in the video below not only vulgarly criticizing the offending player, but also getting straight-up rekt by the cheater.
It’s clear that no matter where DougisRaw is, the cheating Halo Infinite player tracks him down—and others—to insta-click heads. The cheater always knows where he is, whether he is hiding behind cover or not in the frame at all. Aimbots and wallhacks, two mods that help automate target acquisition and change the properties of walls, are responsible for this.
DougisRaw isn’t the only one who has been showcasing Halo Infinite cheaters in all their heinous glory. User KanoxHD posted a video of themselves being killed by someone using an aimbot on the game’s subreddit. Just look at how quickly the reticle locates and follows players.
It should be acceptable to be a lousy gamer. After all, everyone starts somewhere. Learning how to improve at games should also be acceptable. Growing and improving your skills is often what makes them enjoyable. But cheating to get a high K/D isn’t the way to go. While 343 Industries has stated that anti-cheat is necessary in competitive games, particularly those like Halo Infinite that are cross-platform, it’s unclear what steps the developer will take to address these issues.
Due to the fact that Halo Infinite players must contend with cheaters, fans of the game are furious with the battle pass’ progression. Although there have been some improvements, and 343 Industries did provide a bonus gift in exchange for all of the problems, the backlash, particularly around cosmetics, continues to grow.
