Popular Norwegian YouTuber Tor Eckhoff died while filming another video five days after he uploaded a video for his birthday with the teasing title “I am Not Dead, I am 57 today.”
Eckhoff, also known as Apetor on YouTube, is said to have fallen through the ice at the Jakobs Dam in Kongsberg, Norway. Despite the fact that he was alone, authorities were summoned and he was rescued from the water.
His videos of wild stunts in the Scandinavian winter were also well-known. He told the Daily Dot in 2016 that he would chug vodka, skate on thin ice, and swim with Polar Bears.
Eckhoff had 1.2 million subscribers on YouTube and made it a birthday tradition to caption videos “I am Not Dead,” which many fans found tragically ironic.
On Sunday, tributes poured in on Twitter, stating that he died doing what he loved.
