The breach into Twitch in early October did not result in the release of any major information regarding passwords, but it did result in the leak of earnings data based on its biggest creators, as much of the gaming community now knows. The financials of Twitch newcomer BruceGreene have become one of the leak’s biggest surprises, despite the fact that most would expect the names to be of those who have solely maintained popularity for years.
According to now-public documents obtained by an anonymous hacker, Greene’s Twitch channel earned $1,360,850 from subscriptions, sponsorships, and donations from August 2019 to October 2021, averaging $52,340 per month. Greene likely saw the majority of this income near the end of these two years, as his channel only launched in late 2019. For example, no Greene stream has yet surpassed 1,000 views in 2019, but some of his more recent streams have surpassed 200,000 views.
Greene wrote on his Reddit forum for the first time since the Twitch breach that he felt weird that his privacy was invaded. The creator also stressed in a recent Twitch live stream that a large portion of the donations received goes to “giving back to the community” through random giveaways. It’s difficult to disagree with his point, given that Greene is frequently seen giving away high-value items, such as games, consoles, and even rare Pokémon cards, on his various streams.
Greene gained a following as a former video personality for G4 and Rooster Teeth’s Funhaus, and his channel’s massive growth has come as a surprise to the streaming world. Greene, who now works full-time as a Twitch streamer, can be seen live every day playing newly released triple-A games — and, of course, giving away all kinds of gaming swag.
