Kaitlyn “Amouranth” Siragusa, the soon-to-be-ex OnlyFans model, had a candid livestreamed interview with Rolling Stone on May 31st, discussing what it’s like to be a female streamer. After multiple female content creators opted out of TwitchCon due to harassment, stalking, and threats, this has become a hot topic.
Amouranth admitted that she was sexualized “just out and about in public” even before she started streaming, and that there aren’t many things women can do about it short of never leaving the house.=
It’s not just getting sexualized from afar for Amouranth — and many other female streamers.
During the interview, Amouranth talked about being harassed while doing IRL streaming. Many men would follow her around stores unaware that she was live streaming.
Streaming, for Amouranth, is a way to “reclaim the power.” Instead of being a “victim” of constant sexualization, she says she can capitalize and benefit from it on stream. Women don’t always realize they’re being harassed and sexualized.
