Popular Twitch streamer LuluLuvely has spoken out against the obscene Reddit forums that make demeaning and inappropriate comments, images, and videos about her and other female streamers, claiming that it makes her uncomfortable.
Despite the fact that all streamers are subjected to bullying and harassment, most female streamers are frequently targeted, as streaming remains a male-dominated space – especially among the most popular broadcasters.
LuluLuvely who primarily streams Apex Legends, has faced hate and harassment in the past, which has forced her to stop streaming entirely.
Now, she has called out just one of the ways that viewers, mostly men, will target female streamers by spreading inappropriate sexualized posts about them on Reddit. Many other female streamers confirmed that they had experienced the same thing.
LuluLuvely posted a series of quotes on April 21st that reflect what women are often told to avoid targeted harassment. Several other female streamers responded to her post.
Despite requests, Reddit rarely, if ever, removes these subreddits, according to QTCinderella. Adept highlighted the plague of fake images or videos which are fabricated to look like female streamers, and the effect the said harassment had on her own life too.
The issue is “rampant” on Reddit, according to Imane ‘Pokimane‘ Anys, Twitch’s most-followed female streamer, who claims that moderators ignore them.
Reddit’s content policy does have rules about targeted harassment and mentions directly posting sexual media about individuals, but it’s unclear how or if the content about female streamers directly violates these rules.
It’s also difficult for Twitch to intervene in this situation because the content is separate from Twitch services.
