Dan Clancy, the CEO of Twitch, has personally apologized for the uproar surrounding the business’s recently abandoned branded content guidelines, admitting that the firm “messed up” with its suggested limitations.
Twitch unveiled new branded content policies on June 6, 2023, to assist the network manage how streamers promote sponsorships. This adjustment was received with immediate resistance because it was likely to have a significant negative impact on charity and esports streams in addition to having broad ramifications for each individual streamer. Asmongold urged a boycott while threatening to completely withdraw his organization, OTK Network, from the platform. Just a few hours later, Twitch apologized, but it has now completely erased the rules from its website.
Other content creators have also offered their opinions on the matter, with people like Ludwig also offering their thoughts. Following all the criticism, Twitch quickly reversed course and abandoned the revisions. Now, Dan Clancy, the CEO of Twitch, has expressed his regret for the incident during a livestream on the network. The CEO swiftly addressed the issue at the beginning of the stream. “Let me just go straight to the point. For those who don’t know, we recently released this branded content policy. I won’t go through all the details.”
Clancy went on to express regret for the error in the guidelines, claim responsibility for the predicament, and admit Twitch’s wrongdoing. “We got a lot of negative pushback and the bottom line is we messed up. It’s on us and I apologize for that.”
