During a recent broadcast, Twitch broadcaster Blau criticized Rumble, saying they had issued a “scummy” DMCA strike against his YouTube channel due to the default offline screen on his real-world rucksack.
Many businesses have developed specialized backpacks that include all the hardware you’ll need to broadcast from anywhere in the world ever since IRL Twitch streaming started to gain popularity. One of those businesses is LiveU, and Twitch broadcaster Blau uses one of their backpacks for his live feeds while out and about. After uploading the VOD to his YouTube channel, he now asserts that Rumble issued a DMCA strike for the default LiveU offline screen. Blau has thousands of subscribers who watch his work on a separate YouTube channel where he has been uploading his Twitch stream VODs since July 2022.
His live streams from the real world have also been posted to the channel, complete with the standard LiveU offline screen that, according to him, Rumble has allegedly violated his DMCA rights.
He explained; “You guys know that default screen on the live backpacks that says ‘Hey, the stream is offline right now’? They DMCA’d that screen. So when I have that screen on my stream, Rumble is DMCAing me for that screen. It’s actually f*cking stupid and I’m about to write a big ass tweet about it. I’m first gonna message LiveU and see if LiveU can do something about it first. That’s scummy. Like, they’re basically saying this stock image that LiveU uses, we’re gonna copyright strike that on YouTube.”
If LiveU or Rumble have resolved the DMCA issues with the stock image used by the IRL backpack firm, Blau has not yet disclosed this. If they do resolve it, the Twitch streamer will have no trouble uploading the VOD to his YouTube channel. In the recording, he could also cut the screen out.
