Battlefield 2042, a first-person shooter from DICE, was widely anticipated, but it was plagued by problems prior to its release. Since its November release, the game has been plagued by game-breaking bugs, server issues, and a mass exodus of players. Steam is now making an exception to its own refund policy and is refunding games to disgruntled customers.
Even though Roboserg had more than two hours of total game time logged, Steam issued a refund as a customer service gesture, according to screenshots. Steam’s refund policy states that if a player has played the game for more than two hours or requests a refund after 14 days, they are ineligible for a refund.
This refund was most likely granted after Roboserg explained that they were stuck in the game’s settings for several hours. They explained the game’s broken state and bugs, which prevented them from testing it or setting keybinds, and begged Steam for a refund. Following the explanation, Steam decided to issue a refund for the game.
On Steam, Battlefield 2042 has received “mostly negative” reviews, with 67 percent of the game’s more than 85,000 reviews being disappointing and angry criticisms.
To make matters worse, gamers have panned the Hazard Zone game mode, which has been dubbed a failure of a game mode by Redditors on the Battlefield 2042 subreddit.
Battlefield 2042’s PC player base has more than halved every month since its launch, with only 15,000 players on average in the last 30 days. The Battlefield franchise’s reputation appears to have been seriously tarnished in the eyes of gamers, as players continue to demand refunds.
