Sonic The Hedgehog sprints into Elden Ring thanks to a custom build by one player, complete with a lighting-infused spin dash to dispatch enemies.
One wouldn’t expect two games as dissimilar as Elden Ring and Sonic The Hedgehog to get along, but one player introduced the harsh world of the Lands Between to SEGA’s Blue Blur, complete with his signature Spin Dash. Elden Ring has only been out for about a month, but the FromSoftware dark RPG is already regarded as one of the year’s best-selling video games.
Elden Ring Twitch streams quickly became some of the most popular on the social media website, memes featuring Elden Ring bosses like Radahn have gone viral, and FromSoftware recently announced that it is looking to turn Elden Ring into a media franchise to capitalize on the game’s overnight success.
Elden Ring, a fully customizable exile on a quest to gather the lost fragments of the titular Elden Ring and become the new Elden Lord, was written with the help of George R.R. Martin.
Players have recreated various fictional characters to place in the medieval world of Elden Ring, as is to be expected with any video game with an in-depth character creator. Ciri from The Witcher 3 or Gandalf from The Lord Of The Rings are two examples, while the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Nigel Thornberry from The Wild Thornberrys, and even Ross Gellar from Friends are examples of far more bizarre choices.
Reddit user itsmarcoyolo recently posted a gameplay video montage to the Elden Ring subreddit, showing them competing as Sonic The Hedgehog – or at least a human Tarnished with blue body paint and bushy, unkempt hair – in Elden Ring’s multiplayer PVP mode.
Itsmarcoyolo’s character attacks other players with a lighting-infused roll that resembles Sonic’s signature spin-dash attack as the classic Sonic Adventure 2 theme “Live And Learn” plays in the background. Other Elden Ring players who commented on itsmarcoyolo’s video joked about their Sonic-inspired playthrough, asking if Sonic drops the Elden Ring when hit and comparing the Sonic Tarnished to the character’s original design in the first Sonic The Hedgehog movie, which was famously scrapped after fan backlash in favor of a more game-accurate look.
The recent appearance of Sonic in Elden Ring comes at an exciting time, as SEGA’s hyperactive mascot is set to return to the big screen in the upcoming Sonic The Hedgehog 2, which will see Sonic team up with Tails and Knuckles in a live-action film for the first time. Sonic Frontiers, a video game, is expected to be released later this year.
Sonic Adventure’s new mainline looks to take the long-running Sonic franchise in a new direction by putting Sonic in a colorful open world just like The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild and Kirby And The Forgotten Land, as well as adding different combat styles and exploration options to go with Sonic’s trademark speed.
Sonic The Hedgehog and Elden Ring appear to be polar opposites at first glance, with one being a kid-friendly platformer starring an anthropomorphic hedgehog and the other being a dark medieval RPG with brutal and challenging combat. However, rings are a highly desirable object for the player character in both games, and it turns out that players can recreate Sonic’s spin-dash in Elden Ring, even if the speedy Hedgehog isn’t nearly as cute as he is in his home series.
