George RR Martin, creator of Game of Thrones and author of Elden Ring, clarified a rumored ‘easter egg’ that had sparked debate among fans.
Players have discovered many easter eggs in FromSoftware’s open-world title since its release in February 2022, including the Berserk Greatsword and Game of Thrones nods but one that sparked a debate in the community was whether George RR Martin had purposefully hidden one in the game, and the novelist has now clarified the matter.
Elden Ring players noticed a number of characters with names beginning with ‘G,’ ‘R,’ and ‘M,’ and began speculating about whether the writer’s initials were placed on purpose.
On March 21, George RR Martin debunked the theory in a blog post titled “This, That, and t’Other Things.” on his website, stating that he has been naming characters in his work with initials since 1971.
