Recent allegations against Activision Blizzard, alleging that breastfeeding employees had their breast milk stolen and were forced to use unsanitary equipment, shocked and alarmed the gaming community.
Asmongold, the top World of Warcraft streamer on Twitch, was one of those shocked and disturbed gamers. Asmongold described the situation as “upsetting” after reading the recent reports about stolen breast milk and stained, dirty tables in the nursing area.
Asmongold claims to have developed a thick skin over the years and is rarely affected by what he reads. However, the streamer’s situation at Blizzard is becoming increasingly distressing. Despite the fact that breast-feeding is “outside of his area of expertise,” Asmongold sympathized with the female employees at the Blizzard office who had to deal with these issues.
Since the lawsuit, Asmongold has been outspoken about his dislike for Blizzard’s office practices, but he has continued to play World of Warcraft, though he has switched to other games due to some in-game changes he doesn’t agree with.
After the gender discrimination allegations surfaced, Imane “Pokimane” Anys recently stated that well-off streamers should not play Blizzard games at all. Although she hasn’t played Blizzard games since last summer, Asmongold believes her statement that others should do so is “pandering.”
Even if they are “influencers,” Asmongold believes that people should spend money on what they want to spend money on, and that you “aren’t accountable” for what other people spend money on.
Pokimane also stated in her initial statement that streamers who continue to play Blizzard games should continue to be vocal critics of the company, as Asmongold has done. Asmongold has not only been vocal about Blizzard’s sexist workplace, but he has also spoken directly to the developer.
