Popular Twitch streamer Asmongold recently clarified his position on pay-to-win games by acknowledging that, as long as they don’t have in-game currencies, gambling, or loot box systems, he has no issue with them.
It’s an opinion that deviates from the mainstream. The opinionated Twitch streamer asserts, however, that there is a significant distinction between paying to win and paying for a chance to win. He argued that rather than taking a chance, people ought to be able to pay cash for certain items without any other considerations. In-game currency should be prohibited.
According to him, this is because businesses intentionally include in-game currency to trick players into thinking they’re not spending as much money as they actually are, which is against the law, and because of this, he intends to discuss making them illegal at a round table meeting with U.S. Senator Ted Cruz. He believes this will have an impact.
A time and date have not yet been set, though.
In Belgium and the Netherlands, games with the gambling and loot box elements he is worried about have already been outlawed. The industry will change if the US does the same. But for now, that is a big if.
Additionally, according to xQc, they are the reason why Twitch will never outlaw gambling because if they did, they would also have to outlaw game streams.
