A growing number of Twitch streamers claim that their site payouts have been stolen, with thieves gaining access to their accounts and redirecting payments to a new PayPal account. Twitch denies successful payments.
Killadelphia, a partnered streamer with just under 10,000 followers, was the first to report a stolen payment issue.
Someone had logged in and changed the payment information, causing Killadelphia’s earnings from the platform, such as subscriptions, ad revenue, and bits, to be sent to another PayPal account rather than his own.
When he contacted Twitch, he was told that it appears the payout was sent to the chosen payout method after investigation. Twitch support is unable to reverse or reissue payouts that have been successfully paid/cleared.
No possible way to recourse or reverse this transaction, Twitch responded to xSophieSophie. They also suggested changing your password and making sure your two-factor authentication (2FA) is current. Despite the fact that 2FA was enabled and is still enabled, the payment method is still being changed, according to the streamer.
Twitch concludes that the best thing they can do is take all precautionary measures to prevent any compromised situations from occurring again; however , it does not specify what those precautionary measures are.
EliteJonas1 claims that $347 was deducted from their payment and transferred to another PayPal account. Twitch Support recommended changing passwords and activating 2FA once more.
As EliteJonas1 points out, $347 is a significant sum for anyone, but especially a small streamer who relies on streaming to supplement their income.
The stolen payments have been linked to the major Twitch data breach that occurred earlier in October, according to some reports. However, the platform stated that no login credentials were stolen as a result of the breach.
