Twitch Views Of Babylon Fall Surge 113,100 Percent

This weekend, Twitch viewers for the much-maligned online RPG skyrocketed.

Babylon’s Fall appears to be a complete disappointment. The action RPG from Square Enix and PlatinumGames has been panned by critics and has a paltry player base. As of this writing, the game has around 300 players, with only about twenty people watching it on Twitch.

According to SteamDB, Babylon’s Fall has only 1,188 concurrent players at its all-time high. Indeed, the game’s performance has been so poor that Square Enix has resorted to polling players in order to gain a better understanding of how to improve it.

Meanwhile, thanks to a popular Twitch streamer focusing on what he called the “biggest flop,” the number of its Twitch viewers increased dramatically recently.

Charles White Jr., better known by his YouTube handle Moistcr1tikal, is a YouTuber and Twitch streamer known for his witty commentary while playing video games. White decided to stream himself “trying the biggest flop of the year” just this weekend.

According to his Twitch page, the stream received 200,996 views, while over on SteamDB, the Steam graph shows a vertiginous spike as Twitch Viewers jumped from 10 to 10,202 before peaking at 11,320.

As soon as Moistcr1tikal finished his stream, it dropped to double digits, leaving Babylon’s Fall to its tiny audience of a few hundred players and a dozen or so Twitch viewers.

White streamed himself playing Babylon’s Fall for about two hours, after which he watched videos before starting to play and creating his Babylon’s Fall character. White, like many others, was underwhelmed by PlatinumGames and Square Enix’s creation, citing poor visuals and declaring it “not fun” and a shoo-in for worst game of the year

Despite the negative response, the developers have stated that they have “no plans to reduce the scale of development,” confirming that content up to the end of Season 2 is “practically complete” and that work on Season 3 and beyond has begun. This dedication is admirable in some ways, though it remains to be seen whether Babylon’s Fall can improve its fortunes by becoming a better game.
