Streamlabs: Facebook Gaming Overtakes YouTube Gaming

According to new data from Streamlabs, Facebook Gaming has surpassed YouTube Gaming in terms of viewing, owing to Facebook’s significant improvements to its gaming sector.

Facebook Gaming has made every effort to increase its presence in the livestreaming space. The company has recently targeted a number of Twitch celebrities, promising them large sums of money to join their platform, including a one-of-a-kind offer to pay creators a bonus of $5 to $20 for every new member they gain between now and the end of 2021.

They’ve now eclipsed YouTube Gaming in terms of viewership, demonstrating that their dedication and success aren’t a fluke.

Data for Q3 July 2021 – September 2021 was released by software company Streamlabs in partnership with Stream Hatchet, indicating how well the big three of streaming in Twitch, YouTube Gaming, and Facebook Gaming did during that time. The results were unexpected, given Facebook had more hours watched and hours streamed during that time period than YouTube. While Twitch remains the number one, the race for second place is still on.

Facebook Gaming outperformed YouTube by over two full percentage points, with 15.7 percent of total viewing for Facebook and 13.8 percent for YouTube. Twitch maintained its lead with 70.5 percent of total viewing. In terms of hours streamed, Facebook outperformed YouTube, with 17.1 million hours compared to 8.4 million for YouTube.

Massive broadcasters like DisguisedToast and KingGothalion have joined Facebook Gaming, and the consequences of their big spending are starting to pay off. It’ll be interesting to see if Facebook can keep up with YouTube, which has been acquiring huge stars like TimTheTatman and DrLupo.
