Twitch has officially outlawed certain types of gambling as of October 18th, including roulette, dice games, and slot machines.
As a result, sponsored gambling broadcasters were forced to find a new platform, with many of them ending up on the website DLive. Following months of debate between viewers and streamers, Twitch finally addressed the pervasive problem of sponsored gambling streams. The network made the decision to stop supporting sponsors or some types of gambling, giving streamers around one month to find a new platform before the ban went into force.
Twitch further restricted the practice on the day the restriction was finally lifted by extending the prohibition’s scope to include websites with customer safeguards.
Since only licensed platforms are permitted to stream, the once-popular Slots category has experienced a sharp decline in the days following the ban. However, those ejected from Twitch due to gambling-sponsored contracts appear to have found a new home on DLive. DLive is a livestreaming website that bills itself as “a platform that empowers creators and viewers through a revolutionary rewards system,” much like Twitch or YouTube. This method makes use of “blockchain technology” and a coin unique to DLive that viewers may spend to support creators.
Another significant lure for former Twitch streamers who just saw their personal money reduced by Twitch is the 75/25 percent cut that DLive offers in favor of streamers on the network. The fact that DLive has no limits on its gambling content and even actively promotes gambling streamers on its main page and social media is crucial for gambling streamers looking for safety. Since October 18, the website has experienced remarkable growth thanks to the platform’s permissive and even encouraging attitude toward gambling, with Slots swiftly becoming the most popular genre for streaming.
Many others have already created accounts, although celebrities like xQc and Trainwrecks have not yet done so despite being permitted to do so by Twitch’s new exclusivity policies.
While DLive has established itself as a refuge for people trying to fulfill their sponsored contracts, Twitch has continued to distance itself from gambling-related activities.
