Ian ‘Crimsix’ Porter, a competitive Call of Duty legend, has shed some light on what will be Call of Duty: Vanguard’s third mode in professional matches, explaining that Control issues mean it may not have one.
Despite the negative press that the Call of Duty League and Activision have received over the off-season, many fans are optimistic and looking forward to the start of the competitive season for CoD: Vanguard.
In most professional matches, three game modes are used. The first Hardpoint that makes up maps 1 and 4; and the second is Search and Destroy, which makes up maps 2 and 5; and the third is often determined by the title.
Control was the Treyarch-designed mode in Black Ops Cold War, and it was specifically designed for competitive play. It was Capture the Flag in Sledgehammer Games’ last title, WWII. However, there may not be a third game mode in Vanguard at all.
Several pros have criticized Vanguard’s competitive settings since its release, citing the lack of Ranked Play and the numerous bugs that plague it’s CDL Ruleset modes.
It has a number of modes, such as Domination, that could have formed the third competitive game mode.
Crimsix actually suggested in a live stream on January 2nd that issues with the implementation of Control mean that it may not have a third game mode at all.
Search and Destroy is a widely popular game genre that is known for its slower pace and dramatic clutches. Regardless, many pros will be disappointed by the lack of a second respawn mode, as SnD is widely regarded as the least consistent and most likely to cause upsets.
Sledgehammer may yet “figure out” Control, but as the clock ticks down to the start of the CDL’s third season, the uncertainty surrounding professional CoD appears to be growing.
