Asmongold has a reputation for being an outspoken MMORPG player, but recently, the two came into conflict when the well-known Twitch streamer disparaged the Final Fantasy XIV Online fanbase.

In September 2021, Asmongold made the decision to pick up playing FFXIV once more. He has since gained a lot of notoriety for the Stormblood expansion. Although the World of Warcraft streamer had previously claimed that FFXIV is the new “leader of MMOs,” it appears that Asmongold no longer enjoys playing it.

Recently, Asmongold made the decision to elaborate on his unhappiness with his return to FFXIV. He stated on July 1 that he is “not quitting” FFXIV but that he does have some ongoing concerns about continuing to produce FFXIV content.

Asmongold claims that he does not want all of his Reddit threads and live streams to be about Final Fantasy. Anything else he does, he was afraid, will be “downvoted,” and people will be “mad” in his chat.

Asmongold continued by saying that another problem with the Final Fantasy audience and its gatekeepers is that FFXIV players will continue to wonder whether he actually likes the game. He explained that they frequently use his complaints as purity tests, determining whether or not he is a true fan. According to Asmongold, this only happens with Final Fantasy.

Asmongold is debating whether he wants to keep playing the game because of the community rather than the actual game. Some supporters of Final Fantasy XIV responded to Asmongold’s criticisms by saying they were annoyed by his streams because he titles them with “FFXIV” but doesn’t play the game for the majority of the stream.
