Asmongold recently blasts YouTube Gaming as a streaming platform, claiming that even Mixer is better than YouTube.
Content creators frequently express their opinions on the current most popular streaming platforms, which include Twitch, YouTube, and Facebook. It’s much more uncommon for someone to openly criticize a platform that they aren’t a part of, perhaps to avoid burning any bridges. Twitch streamer Asmongold did exactly that during a recent broadcast. Asmongold harshly criticized YouTube Gaming, even claiming that the now-defunct Mixer was superior to YouTube.
Asmongold made his remarks after watching a Ludwig video in which Ludwig discusses YouTube Gaming’s “discoverability,” or the ease with which potential new viewers can find channels they like but were previously unaware of. Despite the fact that Ludwig is paid by YouTube Gaming, Ludwig is critical of the platform’s discoverability for streamers. Asmongold, believing Ludwig is being held back by his contract, decides to say what he thinks Ludwig is trying to say.
According to Asmongold, YouTube Gaming’s discoverability, particularly its Live section where streamers can be found, is garbage, and it is probably the worst thing he has ever seen. Shows how passionate Asmongold is about YouTube Gaming, presumably referring to streaming platform landing pages. As if that wasn’t enough, Asmongold claims that YouTube Gaming isn’t even close to Mixer, and that Mixer is dead.
Asmongold believes that if YouTube’s business was solely based on streaming, the company would be doomed. Asmongold is basically saying that if YouTube gaming didn’t have its video content and Alphabet behind it to support it, Mixer would have died.
That’s how important Asmongold thinks discovery is for a streaming platform, or how poorly Asmongold thinks YouTube Gaming is handling discovery for game streaming right now.
Asmongold isn’t just insulting YouTube Gaming for the sake of insulting it, though it does engage his Twitch audience. Instead, he’s pressuring YouTube Gaming to improve its livestreaming landing page and overall gaming channel discovery. Asmongold is using his Twitch popularity as a bludgeon, hoping that YouTube Gaming will be annoyed by the negative attention and feel compelled to make changes.
What’s also intriguing about Asmongold’s remarks is that, at its core, it’s a streamer supporting other streamers across platforms. Asmongold is a Twitch streamer who is watching a YouTube Gaming streamer’s video and applauding their criticism in the hopes of making YouTube Gaming better for more streamers. It’s a heartening show of support from Twitch and YouTube.
